Pre-Kindergarten

Our pre-kindergarten classroom is designed to help your child make significant developmental gains, such as communicating successfully and working well both independently and in groups.  Our highly trained teachers will prepare your child for Kindergarten and life beyond.

The Tot Spot Learning Center's curriculum is specifically designed to meet the child care needs of 4 and 5 year old children.  This challenging, fun and age-appropriate program engages the whole child, helping to focus on thinking, reasoning and communicating.

Kindergarten readiness is so important that we have added "Back to Basics Math, Language and Literacy program" that complies with Pennsylvania standards for Kindergarten.  Building on preschool knowledge, your child will experience learning by strengthening reading skills, proper letter formation, and developing math skills.  We will also help your child develop critical learning skills needed for elementary school such as setting and achieving goals, taking turns, managing work independently, handling emotions and following directions.

Curriculum Areas of Focus

Language and Literacy:  Your child will build confidence with letter/sound relationships and will begin sounding out blends and recognizing sight words.  While reading stories, your child will be asked to use critical thinking skills to make predictions.

Mathematics: Through small group, whole group and individual instruction, your child will explore addition and subtraction, complex sequencing, patterns and graphs.  Your child will be encouraged to explain how he or she is able to solve a problem.

Socialization: Your child is continuing to mature and becoming more aware of actions and consequences.   Teachers will encourage your child to verbally express feelings and behaviors, and to act appropriately.

Health: Your child will develop fine and gross motor skills by taking part in age appropriate hand-eye coordination activities.  Children practice jumping rope, using a hula-hoop and accurately throwing a ball to a target.

Music: Teachers will encourage your child to experiment with sounds and tempo using simple instruments and clapping patterns and by experiencing music from various cultures.

Art: Taking art skills to the next level, your child will participate in activities that ask for complex pictures with detailed representation and the creation of designs using various media such as paint, clay and 3-D models.

Spanish: With a solid foundation built in the last two years, our curriculum emphasizes an active use of the Spanish language.  In addition, food vocabulary is introduced along with the seasons and senses.

Social Studies: Teachers will introduce symbols and people connected to certain holidays and traditions of various cultures.  Your child will also begin the study of maps and globes.

Science: Your child will discuss the role of animals, plants and insects in our world.
